Two-step paint correction

Compound and polish, panel by panel, for deep swirls, holograms and haze.

from $7492 days

Correction removes defects instead of filling them. A cutting compound levels the clear coat below the scratches, then a finishing polish refines the surface to full clarity.

Every panel is checked under studio lights between stages. Where paint is thin we stop short rather than risk the clear coat; the readings tell us where.

Two classic saloons, one with tired paint and one restored
Tired paint, and what it can become. Every job starts with paint depth readings and a test section.

How it is done.

  1. 1Wash and decontaminateFoam pre-soak, two-bucket wash, iron fallout remover and clay. Polishing over grit puts new scratches in.
  2. 2Measure the paintA gauge reads the paint depth on every panel, so we know how much clear coat there is to work with before a pad touches it.
  3. 3Correct under studio lightCompound, then polish, one panel at a time under lights that show swirls, holograms and haze.
  4. 4Strip the oilsA panel wipe removes polishing oils that would hide defects and stop a coating bonding.
  5. 5Coat and cureThe coating goes on in sections, is levelled, and cures overnight indoors before the car goes home.
